About the Run

Peninsula Pacers presents the Donna Brashears 10K Run / 5K Run / Walk for Cancer in loving memory of Donna Brashears, who died in December 2007 of lung cancer at the age of 56, and all of those before and after her that have also lost their lives to cancer. Proceeds from this run will support the American Cancer Society.

The run will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at the YMCA Camp Letts in Edgewater, Maryland. There will be a DJ, an exhibit by Fleet Feet of Annapolis, and an information booth hosted by volunteers from the American Cancer Society. All participants will receive a T-shirt and goody bag.

This event is an opportunity for those impacted by cancer to come together with their families, local businesses, and others in their community to increase awareness and raise funds to support the fight against cancer.

Healing Wall Exhibit: We invite you to send a message or 1-2 photos (4x5 max.) to display on our Healing Wall, for a minimum donation of $5.00, honoring those that have been impacted by cancer. Why Your Support is Important

According to the American Cancer Society, diagnosing cancer at an early stage and making improvements in treatment are key factors in improving cancer survival rates. In fact, overall cancer mortality has steadily declined since the early 1990s, and the 5-year survival rate is now 66%, up from 50% in the 1970s.

This year, however, more than 562,000 people are expected to die of cancer in the United States--more than 1,500 people a day. Cancer is the second most common cause of death among Americans and accounts for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths in the United States.

Eliminating cancer as a major public health threat is still an important goal, and one within reach with the support of people like you! The American Cancer Society not only conducts critical research on diagnosing and treating cancer, but also provides important resources and information to the community. Donations also help support cancer prevention, early detection, and patient service programs.
